Abbas, Netanyahu and Sisi to meet in Cairo

May 25, 2016 at 1:34 pm

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi are to meet in Cairo soon, Al-Resalah newspaper reported yesterday.

The paper reported Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth saying that the office of the Israeli prime minister refused to confirm the meeting, but added that preparations for the meeting are underway.

The Israeli newspaper reported unnamed Palestinian officials saying that all three sides are ready for the meeting. PLO Executive Committee member Ahmed Majdalani said that there is not benefit to such meeting as long as Israel continues its violations against Palestinians.

“The Egyptian efforts to revive the peace process are good,” Majdalani said, “but we need real pressure on the Israeli occupation in order to commit to the conditions of the international Quartet, which recognises Palestinians’ rights.”

A secret Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo on Sunday in preparation for the meeting.
