US: Iran is top state sponsor of terror

Iran tops the US’ list of states that sponsor terror, while Daesh is the greatest threat internationally, the State Department revealed in its annual report on terrorism.

Iran is continuing to provide arms and cash to groups mentioned in the terror list such as Hezbollah and a number of militias in Iraq and Syria, the report said.

The US is concerned about what it described as “Iranian activities to destabilise the region”, adding that Iran provides support through different channels, either through cash or training terrorist groups around the world.

The report also pointed out that 11,774 terrorist attacks took place in 92 countries over 2015, which resulted in the death of 28,300 persons.
