A statement by Morsi’s family

June 6, 2016 at 9:27 am

This is the fourth Ramadan that Dr. Morsi is going to spend alone in prison. We believe it’s necessary to keep the people informed of his situation.

As far as we are aware, Dr.Morsi is the only political detainee in Egypt who is banned from family visits. Since the military coup on 3 July 2013, he has only seen them once on 7 November 2013. Since then, he has been able to see his son Osama four times for a few minutes, the last visit was on January 2015.

His wife and the other family members were banned from visiting him on 13 November 2013.

His family doesn’t know anything about his health, his access to food, clothes and where he is being detained.

Moreover, the family is not allowed to provide him with any personal belongings such as clothes or food.

The family has sent scores of requests to visit him. These have received no reply. Family visits are a constitutional right of all detainees including Dr Morsi.

We call on Egyptian and international human rights organisations both to help end this injustice.

We will keep fighting for Dr. Morsi’s freedom.
