Turkish president to attend Mohammed Ali memorial service

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to travel to the United States this week to attend the public memorial service for boxing legend Muhammad Ali on Friday, sources in the Turkish presidency told Anadolu news agency.

Erdogan is scheduled to leave Wednesday to attend the public service which will be held in Ali’s hometown of Kentucky, the source said.

Ali died on Friday in a Phoenix hospital, where he had spent the past few days being treated for respiratory complications.

World leaders including Erdogan, US President Barack Obama and Jordanian King Abdullah II have paid tribute to the boxing legend.
