Turkey to suspend refugee deal if no visa-free travel for Turkish citizens

June 8, 2016 at 10:13 am

Turkey will suspend its agreement with the European Union to halt the flow of refugees and migrants if the later failed to fulfil its obligations to exempt Turks from visa requirements, the Turkish foreign minister said.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told state broadcaster TRT Haber on Tuesday that “this is not a threat, but both agreements should be applied simultaneously”.

The European Commission has recommended the exemption of Turkish citizens from visa requirements to the EU zone by the end of June if Turkey fulfilled its part of the deal.
