Russia Today has announced details of a new Syrian government, including the names of the new prime minister and cabinet members, AlKhaleejonline.com reported on Friday.

The current regime felt obliged to deny the claims made by the Russian media outlet because it pre-empted the official announcement from Damascus. Officials insisted that the news is “not precise”.

Nevertheless, according to Russia Today, sources in Damascus have revealed that Engineer Imad Khamis, the current Minister of Electricity, is being tasked with leading and choosing the new government. Khamis is expected to announce the names of his cabinet members soon.

The Syrian news agency Sana, which is close to the regime, insisted that the formation of a government is carried out through constitutional means. It criticised what has been published in the media.
