UN chief let down by Washington before his visit to Israel

June 25, 2016 at 1:45 pm

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been let down by Washington on the eve of his visit to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories on Monday, as the Middle East Quartet delayed publication of a report due to have been released on Thursday, QudsNet news has reported.

According to the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, sources have revealed that the report was still under review by the United States and the final draft has not been handed over to the other members of the Quartet. This means, the sources claimed, that Mr Ban is going to meet Israeli officials without anything concrete on his agenda.

The report is expected to be an opportunity for the Quartet’s agreement on the language used to give details of the obstacles in the path of the resumption of meaningful talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Practical measures for a return to the negotiating table are also proposed, the media claimed.
