As the Syrian civil war grinds through its sixth year, Aleppo has become the focus of intensified fighting.

Once Syria’s economic hub, Aleppo is now divided between government forces and rebels and is a key battleground. Since the collapse of the Geneva talks in recent months, the city has become the scene of fierce fighting between the Assad regime and its allies on one side, and Syrian rebels on the other.

A recent truce brokered by the US and Russia expired earlier this month without renewal and Moscow has pledged to press ahead with its air campaign in support of Syrian regime President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces.

Despite recent efforts to calm the situation, the battle for the city seems to be intensifying, and no end to the fighting in Aleppo appears to be in sight.
