Saudi intercepts ballistic missile from Yemen

July 5, 2016 at 1:48 pm

The Saudi Air Defence Force has intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Yemen towards the southern city of Abha, without causing damage or injuries.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen said the missile was destroyed by Saudi air defences.

Last month, Saudi Arabia intercepted another ballistic missile launched by Houthi militias and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh against the Safer oil region in the Marib province.

In June, Yemeni rebels launched another ballistic missile against the Yemeni army camp in Al-Jawf province, northeast of the capital Sanaa.

The rebels took control of the Yemeni army ballistic missile system after they gained control of the capital city two years ago.
