US denies coordinating with Russia in war against Daesh in Syria

July 13, 2016 at 1:04 pm

The US Department of State on Monday denied it had coordinated with Russia in the war against Daesh in Syria.

US State Department spokesman John Kirby said: “There is no, other than a channel that has been opened up between DOD and the Russian military to de-conflict for safety of operations purposes, there is no US military coordination with the Russian military inside Syria.”

Kirby said the US has always explored options and alternatives and proposals with respect to the fight against the Al-Nusrah Front and Daesh in Syria, but added that “the degree to which the Russian military is willing to be committed to the fight against those two groups and exclusively those two groups, well, that’s a conversation that we’re willing to have.”

US Secretary of State John Kerry is due to visit Russia on a two-day trip starting tomorrow. He’s due to discuss the Syrian crisis and the situation in Ukraine with senior officials in the country.
