Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra  welcomed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ participation in the African Union Executive Council Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, the county’s APS news agency reported.

“This is an important move to respond to Israel’s actions in the continent,” Lamamra said on the sidelines of the 29th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council.

“We have received with satisfaction the announcement of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ attendance in Kigali,” the minister said, adding that “this will be a necessary component to counter the Zionist activity represented by the Israeli prime minister’s visits to some West African countries.”

The AU Executive Council is preparing for the 27th AU Summit which will be held on 17 and 18 July under the theme: African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the rights of women.
