Turkey has still not resumed diplomatic contact with Egypt

July 16, 2016 at 2:52 pm

A spokesman for the Turkish government has said that his country has still not officially resumed its contacts with Egypt, Anadolu reported on Friday. Full diplomatic relations were expected to be resumed in the wake of Ankara’s recent deal with Israel over the 2010 Mavi Marmara affair.

Neiman Qortalmosh pointed out that Turkish foreign policy deals with Russia, Egypt, Israel and Syria separately. He said that the issues relating to all should not be mixed together, adding that the policy is working very well.

According to Qortalmosh, rapprochement between Turkey and Russia could pave the way to a resolution of the Syrian crisis, although this will still take time. Such issues, he insisted, cannot be solved “within 24 hours.”

Despite the attempted military coup in Turkey on Friday night, the government appears to have taken control and imposed law and order on the streets. Foreign policy is not expect to be affected by the “treason” of a few army officers, it is believed.
