Tunisian PM asks for new vote of confidence in his government

July 21, 2016 at 11:58 am

Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid yesterday officially requested a new parliamentary vote of confidence in his government, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Ennahda MP Habib Qadir told Anadolu that the parliament had officially received a message requesting holding a meeting for this reason.

Qadir said that members of the Executive Office of the parliament are meeting today to see whether this request is in line with the constitution and the internal regulation of parliament.

He pointed out that the request would be proposed for a parliamentary meeting within two weeks. During the meeting parliament will decide if they should vote on the matter.

Defeat in the vote would force Essid to stand down after just a year and a half in the office. It is worth mentioning that last Monday, Essid asked the parliament to accelerate the formation of the national unity government proposed by President Baji Caid Essebsi.
