Kuwait applies new electronic media law

July 26, 2016 at 10:14 am

The Ministry of Information in Kuwait started to apply a new law to regulate electronic media on Monday a day after the legislation was approved and published in the Official Gazette.

The new law regulates all web-based publications, including electronic news services, bulletins, websites of newspapers and televisions and suchlike. Under the legislation, all of these services must obtain a licence from the government before they can operate.

The ministry will provide all technical, material and moral support for approved and licensed electronic media outlets, which are required to work to preserve the state’s higher interests, contribute to the strengthening of Kuwaiti national unity and consolidate social responsibility.
