Hamas: Arab League summit reflects decline of Arab nations

July 28, 2016 at 2:03 pm

Hamas said that the 27th Arab League summit “reflects the status of decline which the Arabs are suffering, even at the official level.”

In a statement issued yesterday, the movement said: “Hamas expresses its regrets regarding the official Arab decline which was reflected in the Nouakchott summit, amid an absence of two-thirds of Arab leaders and presidents.”

“We regret that the summit eventually came out with a statement that does not meet the interests of the Palestinian people and the Arab nations.”

Hamas denounced “the absence of the issues of the Israeli siege and Israeli wars on the Gaza Strip in the summit’s discussions, without demanding the blockade on Gaza Strip be lifted.”

“The Palestinian cause will remain the central issue for the Arab nations, and no summit will succeed if it neglects it… giving any cover to political initiatives which are biased toward Israel is unacceptable; as resolving the issue should pass through the resistance.”

The Arab League summit was held on Monday in Mauritania. Only eight Arab leaders took part in the summit, while 14 were absent.
