Twenty-eight people were wounded in a riot on Thursday night in a prison for young offenders in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, Anadolu has reported. Most of the casualties were admitted to hospital.
According to local sources, 19 security personnel, firefighters and prison administrators were wounded when officials tried to contain the unrest and restore order. The rest of the casualties were inmates.
An official with the Moroccan prisons and reformatories administration said in a statement that the “insurgency and riot” carried out by the inmates in the Ein Al-Saba reformatory — known locally as Okasha —caused “massive material damage.”
