Gulen arm paid British MP to write anti-Turkey report

A Conservative Member of UK Parliament was paid £115,994 by a group linked to Fetullah Gulen to write a report on the human rights situation in Turkey, Britain’s the Times newspaper reported.

According to the paper, Sir Edward Garnier, a Conservative MP for Harborough, was paid the sum in February 2015 “to co- research and author a document titled ‘A Report on the Rule of Law and Respect for Human Rights in Turkey’.”

The report was commissioned by the Journalists and Writers Foundation, which is thought to be linked to the Gulen movement.

Turkish authorities believe the coup attempt on the country on 15 July was orchestrated by Gulen.

Sir Edward has denied any support for Gulen, stating that he wrote the report as an independent body based on evidence that was presented to him. The report was forwarded to senior members in British politics, including former Prime Minister David Cameron and former Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond.

Gulen is known for his staunch opposition to the Turkish government.
