Moroccan security denies instructions to increase firearms use

August 5, 2016 at 10:54 am

The security authorities in Morocco have denied media reports claiming they issued instructions to intensify the use of arms against suspects.

The Moroccan Directorate General of National Security said in a statement yesterday that “the use of weapons by police officers is similar to the rest of the equipment placed at the disposal of law enforcement units, and is subject to strict legal and regulatory controls that accurately determine the legal framework for their use.”

On Wednesday, local media reported that the Moroccan security apparatus had instructed its elements to “intensify the use of firearms against suspects”.
