Putin: Russia seeking to restore relations with Turkey

August 17, 2016 at 10:38 am

Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country is making “sincere efforts” to restore relations with Turkey at all levels.

“We are sincerely seeking to restore full-format relations with our friendly country Turkey with which we have had unique relations of cooperation and coordination for many years,” Putin said during a meeting with his Kazakhstani counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in Sochi yesterday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Russia “confirmed our joint determination for full work not only to restore but also to develop our bilateral relations.”

Erdogan met Putin on 9 August in St. Petersburg for the first time since Turkey downed a Russian warplane in November last year.

At the time, Turkey claimed the Russian jet has violated its airspace on the Syrian border.
