Russia killed 2,704 Syrian civilians, including 746 children and 514 women since it started its airstrikes on 30 August 2015 until 1 August 2016, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) revealed yesterday.

Deaths by city:

  • Aleppo: 1,178
  • Idlib: 652
  • Deir ez-Zor: 331

In a report, the SNHR said the largest number of civilian deaths, 1,178, was in Aleppo, adding that Russian forces violated two UN Security Council resolutions as well as the statement of hostility cessation reached on 27 February.

According to the report, these violations are considered a “form of premeditated killing and this amounts to a war crime based on Article 8 of the Rome Statute.”
