August 18, 2016 at 10:12 am

Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative and President of the Freedoms Committee, Mustafa Barghouti condemned the Israeli security forces’ arrest of Hamas campaigner in the West Bank, Hussein Abu Kweik, accusing Israel of attempting to thwart the upcoming local elections.

“Once again, the [Israeli] occupation is trying to suppress the Palestinian people’s freedom to elect their representatives and to harm Palestinian democracy,” Barghouti said in a statement yesterday.

He called for joint efforts in order to thwart Israeli plans and ensure the success of the elections as well as freedom of political action.
