Egypt’s Foreign Ministry yesterday condemned the two terrorist attacks which occurred in Turkey on Wednesday and Thursday, stressing the country’s solidarity with Turks in the face of this violence.

In a statement, the ministry said that its spokesman “condemned the two terrorist incidents that took place on Wednesday evening, 17 August, and Thursday morning, 18 August, in Turkey and which killed and injured many Turkish citizens.”

Six soldiers were killed and five others were wounded on Thursday as a result of an armed attack by members of the PKK, in the Hizan district in the Bitlis province, eastern Turkey, according to security sources.

Earlier in the day, a car bomb attack near a security building in Elazig city in the east of the country killed three police officers and wounded 217 people, according to the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.

On Wednesday, a policeman and two civilians were killed in an attack by members of the same terrorist organisation using a car bomb.
