Israeli embassy staff strike over low salaries

August 22, 2016 at 12:57 pm

Some 1,200 employees at Israeli embassies around the world are on strike today after negotiation to increase their pay failed to reap results, Israel’s Ynet News reported.

Employees in the Canada, Germany, Jordan, Spain and the US are taking part in the strike.

Two and a half years of negotiations regarding the employees’ pay have been unsuccessful in resolving the issue. Chairman of the Local Israeli Employees Committee Avishai Azriel said the Israeli government is only interested in excuses and not in real negotiations.

“We won’t continue being modern slaves supported by the state,” he said, adding that he hoped the strike would bring an end to the “foot dragging” by the Israeli government.
