Egypt frees Israeli found in possession of ammunition

August 23, 2016 at 1:38 pm

An Egyptian court in Al-Arish ruled in favour of the release an Israeli contractor who was arrested 18 days ago at the Taba crossing while trying to enter Egypt with more than 60 bullets, Israeli sources revealed yesterday.

Caesar was arrested while on his way to holiday in Egypt, Israeli radio said, “forgetting about the ammunition in his car.”

The Israeli embassy and the Deputy Minister of Regional Cooperation Ayoob Kara intervened to secure Caesar’s release. His arrest was not announced at the request of the Egyptians who made it clear he would be released.

Israeli media said Caesar’s release was an indicator of the strength of relations between the North African nation and Tel Aviv.
