Israeli minister: ‘Two-state solution is inapplicable’

August 23, 2016 at 10:05 am

The two-state solution is “inapplicable”, Israeli Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Ze’ev Elkin said yesterday.

Israeli radio reported him saying: “The only solution that the Palestinians could accept is the withdrawal from the 1967 occupied lands and dividing Jerusalem,” he said. He asked “whether the Israelis accept this.”

His remarks came after a result of a poll released on Thursday showed that only a small majority of Palestinians, 51 per cent, and Israelis, 59 per cent, accept the two-state solution.

According to the Anadolu Agency, the poll was conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah.
