Jarrar: PA violating public freedoms

August 23, 2016 at 1:44 pm

Palestinian Legislative Council member Khalida Jarrar condemned the Palestinian Authority’s security services’ use of force during an event to show solidarity with hunger striking prisoners.

Demonstrators, who stood outside the UN headquarters in Ramallah, were beaten and two were arrested.

Jarrar told Alresalah news site: “We condemn this attack that was completely unacceptable. We consider this a serious indicator of the violation of public freedoms. We were expecting some kind of support and solidarity, rather than assaulting and beating the supporters.”

People have a right to peacefully demonstrate, especially with regards the issue of prisoners on strike as well as prisoner Bilal Kayed, who is now in a critical condition.

She urged Palestinians to move to protect public freedoms.

“We are waiting for the court results next Thursday. The Israeli occupation is clearly procrastinating in considering the case of captive Kayed,” she said, calling on the United Nations and international institutions to move to stop arbitrary detentions.
