OIC: ‘Israeli strikes in Gaza heinous crime’

August 23, 2016 at 9:41 am

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned on Sunday the Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, calling it a “military escalation” and describing it as a “heinous crime”, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement, the OIC placed “full responsibility” of the “dangerous military escalation” in the coastal enclave on the Israeli occupation.

The OIC said this was a chain in a series of “crimes and violations” that the Israeli occupation has been committing against the Palestinians, noting that it puts the “safety and stability of the whole region at stake.”

Meanwhile, the OIC reiterated that the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip is “illegal” and it is still considered a form of “collective punishment and its unremitting repercussions are a crime against humanity that needs an urgent deterrence.”

The organisation called for the international community, mainly the UN Security Council, to take the “appropriate measures needed to push Israel to stop its crimes and aggression against the Palestinian people.”

It also called for “finding a political solution based on international law to the Palestinian issue.”
