Former Mossad chief: Internal Israeli divisions are the only real threat

Internal divisions within Israel are the greatest threat to the country not Hezbollah or Palestinian resistance groups, former Mossad Chief Tamir Pardo told local media yesterday.

“There is no outside existential threat to Israel,” Pardo said, “the only real existential threat is the internal division.”

Pardo warned that Israel is already on the verge of an internal war. “Internal division can lead us to civil war,” he said, “we are already on a path towards that.”

He said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was right when he said that the state of Israel lies between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean.

Israel “will never be able to achieve normalisation” with the Arabs without achieving a diplomatic resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, he warned.

Regarding Hezbollah, Pardo said that it “can pester us and cause pain, and spur our internal divide – but there is no threat.”
