EU condemns latest Israeli settlement plans

The European Union strongly condemned on Friday the latest Israeli settlement plans which were approved this week in several illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, Al-Resalah has reported.

The EU reiterated its opposition to Israel's settlement policy and urged the occupation authorities to freeze any expansion of existing settlements. It also noted that since January this year, the Israelis have promoted or legalised retroactively 2,706 additional settlement units.

Europe's comments preceded similar remarks by the American and French governments. They expressed their "deep concerns" about the expansion of the settlements, which are all illegal under international law.

Such "concerns" are unlikely to affect the massive political, financial, military and economic aid given to Israel by the West.
