In a phone call on Thursday Presidents Erdogan and Putin came to an agreement that they would renew efforts towards an end to conflict in Aleppo, which has been a hotbed of intense fighting over the past weeks.

Sources told Anadolu news agency that the two leaders also discussed a range of bilateral relations.

Relations between Turkey and Russia have been under particular strain during the war in Syria as each country supports a different side. Moreover, late last year the Turkish air force shot down a Russian jet, which had entered its airspace.

In recent days the both the Turkish and US government has emphasised their common goals and military relationship in Syria.
