Russia set to resume flights to Egypt

September 14, 2016 at 5:04 pm

Russia’s Transport Ministry will send a group of airport safety experts to Egypt to investigate security measures and determine whether the two countries will restore flights, the country’s Minister for Transportation Maksim Sokolov revealed today.

Russia suspended all flights to and from Egypt last year after a Russian plane crashed into the Sinai desert killing all 224 passengers on board. The cause of the crash is still under investigation but Russia believes it was a terrorist attack.

Yesterday Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke to British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson about resuming flights between Britain and Sharm El-Sheikh after Britain sent a delegation to inspect Egypt’s airports and presented Egypt with its recommendations. British holidaymakers were evacuated from the Red Sea resort in November 2015 and all UK airlines suspended their flights to the destination.

Turkish Airlines have already resumed flights between Istanbul and Sharm El-Sheikh.
