Egypt rejects Russian wheat shipment

September 17, 2016 at 3:18 pm

Egyptian inspectors have rejected a 60,000-ton shipment of Russian wheat at the port of Novorossiysk due it being infected with ergot fungus, Moheet.com reported on Friday.

The new Egyptian policy of zero tolerance of the fungus in imported wheat delayed the shipment for a couple of weeks before the inspectors announced that they would not accept it and returned to Egypt.

Local news reports point out that this is the second shipment of wheat infected with ergot fungus to have been rejected by the Egyptians. Ten days ago, they stopped a ship carrying 63,000 tons of Romanian wheat from sailing to Egypt for the same reason.
