Saudi Arabia is gearing up to take a lead on refugees and the fight against terrorism, it has been reported. Speaking at the refugee summit in New York on Monday, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Naif underlined his country’s efforts to ease the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the Middle East. He drew attention to the $139 billion in aid provided by the kingdom over the past decade.

The Saudi prince is expected to address delegates at the UN General Assembly on a number of pressing issues in the region, including the crisis in Syria and terrorism. Arab News reported that he will also denounce Israeli aggression in Palestine and review the future of the Golan Heights.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon lauded Saudi Arabia’s efforts in fighting terrorism. According to the Saudi Press Agency, Ban’s spokesperson said that the UN chief appreciates the kingdom’s support for UN efforts against terrorism. This includes funding for the UN Counter-terrorism Centre, which has been supported by Saudi Arabia with $110 million since it opened in 2011.
