PLO calls for South Africa to lead international BDS action

September 22, 2016 at 11:45 am

Senior PLO and Fatah Central Committee member Mohamed Ishta yesterday called for South Africa to adopt practical measures in supporting the Palestinian issue and to lead an international BDS action, PalSawa reported.

Speaking during a meeting with Simon Mmutle, a member of the South African Representative Office to the State of Palestine, Ishta also called for South Africa to encourage the world to recognise the State of Palestine along the 1967 borders, noting this would strengthen the Palestinian stance in any future talks.

He said it was necessary to counter Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to bolster support in Africa and build diplomatic and economic relations on the continent.

Mmutle reiterated his country’s support for Palestinians and their rights, as well as offering support on the international level.
