A top official in Yemen’s armed Houthi movement offered on Sunday a ceasefire deal to Saudi Arabia.

The head of the self-styled Supreme Political Council Saleh Al-Samad said in a speech that the Houthis are willing to halt its cross border attacks on Saudi Arabia and grant an amnesty to local anti-Houthi resistance fighters if the kingdom stopped air strikes and lifted its near blockade of the country.

This comes after Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdel Malek Al Mekhlafi affirmed that President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi had met with US and UN officials last week and had agreed in principle to a 72-hour ceasefire.

In an interview with Reuters Al Mekhlafi stated that Hadi “asked that the ceasefire be taken advantage of by lifting the unjust siege of Taiz and for food to enter simultaneously.”
