Erdogan: EU has not fulfilled its refugee pledge

October 4, 2016 at 10:00 am

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday criticised the European Union saying it has not fulfilled its pledge to provide aid worth €3 billion for immigrants as part of an agreement to curb the flow of refugees to Europe.

Al- Arabiya quoted Erdogan saying: “The year is coming to a close, they promise but do not deliver.”

The agreement that came into effect in March has drastically reduced the number of migrants and refugees who make the dangerous journey across the Aegean Sea to Greece.

The European Commission said that the payments specified in the agreement are related to projects and would not be paid as a lump sum.
