French Red Cross worker freed from Yemen

October 4, 2016 at 1:35 pm

A Red Cross worker kidnapped 10 months ago in Yemen was freed yesterday and taken to neighbouring Oman, Oman News Agency reported.

Nourane Houas, a French-Tunisian employee at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Yemen’s capital Sana’a, was kidnapped along with a Yemeni man by unidentified gunmen who intercepted their vehicle.

The man was released hours later but Houas continued to be held in an unknown location.

Oman News Agency cited an Omani foreign ministry official saying France had asked Oman to try to locate her. It also reported that Oman negotiated with parties in Yemen to release Houas.

The ICRC confirmed Houas had reached Oman.
