Qatar to supply natural gas to UAE

October 6, 2016 at 3:03 pm

Qatar and the UAE yesterday signed an agreement which would see Doha provide Abu Dhabi with natural gas.

According to the deal signed by Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Chief Executive and Minister of State Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber in Doha, the Dolphin pipeline system will be used to transport the gas.

The long-term sale and purchase agreement is between Qatari state owned company Qatar Petroleum and Dolphin Energy, although neither party gave further comments on other terms of the deal.

The Dolphin pipeline, which was created in 1999 to supply Oman and the UAE with gas through Qatar, has the capacity to carry two billion cubic feet of gas per day, almost a quarter of the UAE’s daily consumption.

Qatar supplies the UAE with most of its gas requirements.
