Scores of supporters of dismissed Fatah official, Muhammad Dahlan, organised a march in Gaza yesterday to condemn Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ attendance of former Israeli President Shimon Peres’ funeral and to call for holding legislative and presidential elections.

Those participating in the march expressed their anger at Abbas’ actions, which they described as “treacherous”. They also burned pictures of the Palestinian leader.

Carrying banners calling for holding legislative and presidential elections, as a national demand, protesters also displayed placards which read: “Shimon Peres is not a man of peace”, “The Palestinian Supreme Court should be looking into the Palestinian situation”, and “Fatah’s unity is a national necessity”.

Palestinian elections were due to take place in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip this month however a court has ruled that they can only be held in the West Bank.
