Israeli army shells Gaza following rocket attack

October 7, 2016 at 2:16 am

The Israeli army launched an artillery assault on the Gaza Strip, Thursday, following a rocket attack which landed in an open area, Maan News reports.

Israeli military units fired shells into an area east of Maghazi refugee camp after a rocket was allegedly fired from there which hit somewhere in the Eshkol regional council area. No injuries were reported from either attack.

Only one day previously another rocket hit the town of Sderot and Israeli bombers carried out airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip. Following that incident an Israeli pilot was killed when his F-16 crash-landed on its return to the airstrip.

Ahfad al-Sahaba – a Salafist group – has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s rocket though Israel holds Hamas – Gaza’s ruling body – responsible for all attacks from the territory.
