A suicide car bomb killed 14 people, including 10 police officers, on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, in Helmand province Sunday. The Taliban has recently announced the launch of a new effort to take over the province.

According to Al Jazeera, local police officials stated that the attack came at about 11:30am and was proceeded by other Taliban attacks on checkpoints.

Haji Marjan told Al Jazeera that “at least 10 police officers, including his brother, and four civilians died in the attack in the Mukhtar area of Lashkar Gah.”
