Kerry and Lavrov will meet, Saturday

John Kerry, US Secretary of State will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Switzerland, on Saturday, to discuss the situation in Syria.

Talks between the two fell apart last week as the US grew more frustrated with Russian support for the Syrian regime and the ongoing siege and military campaign against Aleppo. Both the US and UK have since suggested that the Kremlin may be guilty of war crimes in Syria.

However the Syrian and Russian regimes have blamed opposition forces for breaking the ceasefire and said they target only militants.

Kerry and Lavrov will meet in the city of Lausanne to discuss potential ways to end the conflict. Ministers from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran also expected to attend.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that while Washington remained committed to a “deep multilateral engagement” he went on to say

But it is no longer in the context of trying to broker this agreement that would … hold out the prospect of U.S. military cooperation with Russia. That’s something that Russia has lost… the credibility to be able to try to agree to
