The director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry resigned today.

Dore Gold, who has held the position since June 2015, notified Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also serves as foreign minister, that he wishes to resign.

Thanking the prime minister, Fold said: “I will continue to put myself at your disposal for any task that you assign me in the future.”

Netanyahu has appointed Yuval Rotem as acting Foreign Ministry director general.  Rotem has been an employee of the ministry for the past 30 years. He is a former Israeli ambassador to Australia.

Gold has served at foreign policy adviser in the 1990s and as Israel’s ambassador to the UN.
