Oman: Plans agreed for roadmap for peace in Yemen

October 13, 2016 at 9:46 pm

Oman announced today a roadmap for peace in Yemen which can be implemented within weeks, AlKhaleejOnline reported.

The plan was agreed upon at a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the UK and US in Jeddah in August.

In remarks published in a Saudi newspaper, Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, stressed that the solution to the Yemen crisis “is in the hands of UN representative, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, based on an initiative by US Secretary of State John Kerry” which he described as a “roadmap”.

“The issue is in the hands of the UN and not in our hands and it should not be in anyone else’s hands,” he added.

He pointed out that Oman “may play a role; as a country that still maintains relations with the parties to the conflict.”
