For the second time in four days, the USS Mason, a guided missile destroyer, was targeted by missile emanating from Houthi held territory in Yemen, Wednesday.

According to a Statement from the US Department of Defence

At about 6 p.m. local time today — 11 a.m. EDT — the ship detected at least one missile that officials assess originated from Houthi-controlled territory near Hudaydah, Yemen, Cook said in a statement. The ship employed defensive countermeasures, and the missile did not reach USS Mason

Going on to say,

There was no damage to the ship or its crew… [the] USS Mason will continue its operations. Those who threaten our forces should know that U.S. commanders retain the right to defend their ships, and we will respond to this threat at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.

There was a similar attack on Sunday, which also failed, Pentagon spokesman Captain Jess Davis warned: “Anybody who takes action, fires against US Navy ships operating in international waters, does so at their own peril.”

It is thought Houthi fighters fired the missiles. In a similar attack, earlier this month, the Houthis struck a UAE aid ship in the Bab El-Mandab strait off Yemen’s southern coast.
