Israel confiscates properties of Bedouins in Jericho

October 14, 2016 at 9:25 pm

Israeli forces yesterday confiscated residential barracks in the Palestinian Bedouin residential area of Arab Al-Mleihat in the occupied West Bank district of Jericho, according to a Ma’an reporter.

The residential barracks belonged to Ali Suliman Al-Mleihat and Mohammad Ali Al-Mleihat.

Mayor of Jericho, Majid Al-Fityani, told Ma’an that Israel’s continuous demolitions and confiscations are “crimes against the Palestinian people”, and only “proves that Israel is unwilling to make peace”.

Al-Fityani added that the world was responsible for ending Israeli violations against Palestinians, including the routine levelling of Palestinian lands, confiscations, demolitions, detentions and killings.

A spokesperson for COGAT, the Israeli agency responsible for implementing Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territory, did not immediately respond for comment. It remained unknown if the area was part of Area C which makes up more than 60 per cent of the West Bank and places it under full Israeli and military control.

There are some 40,000 Bedouins reside across the occupied West Bank, according to the United Nations.

Meanwhile, demolitions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem have seen an unprecedented surge in recent months, as Israeli authorities demolished 835 Palestinian structures so far this year, in a large increase from 531 in all of 2015, according to UN documentation.

The demolitions since the start of 2016 have displaced at least 1,202 Palestinians.
