Party leaders meet to negotiate new Moroccan government

The head of the government of Morocco, Abdelilah Benkirane, will commence negotiations for the formation of a new administration today. According to Alyaoum24.com, Benkirane will contact the first Secretary General of the Popular Movement, Mohand Laenser, to kick-start coalition talks.

Having been chosen to front the talks by the General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Benkirane will be accompanied by Minister of Justice and Liberties Mustapha Ramid at the meetings with leaders of the other political parties.

The PJD leader will also meet with representatives of the Party of Progress and Socialism and Istiqlal’s Secretary General, Hamid Chabat. Istiqlal will be looking to negotiate strategic ministerial portfolios and the presidency of the House of Representatives.
