US sued by Turkish victims of coup attempt

October 18, 2016 at 4:50 am

The family of a victim to the violence of the failed coup-attempt on 15 July, in Turkey has lodged a complained against the US in court. It accuses US military officers of “aiding and abetting” pro-coup forces who were stationed at Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base – which is used by the US military.

Zeki Kilinc, father of martyr Muhammet Oguz Kilinc, filed the complaint in court in Antalya, Tuesday.

Kilinc, said his family were in contact with other people who had lost family members in the violence, and stated that there are “betrayers to Turkey are currently living in the United States and protected by certain powers”.

Referring to the nebulous entity described as ‘FETO’ or the ‘Fetullah Terrorist Organisation’ – a reference to followers of US-based cleric, Fetullah Gulen, who is alleged to be behind the Coup attempt – Kilinc stated:

I believe that other families of martyrs will file criminal complaints as well … We all know that FETO is a terrorist group and we want the necessary steps to be taken.

Turkish the authorities cut electricity to the Incirlik base after it was alleged that some coup-plotters had been stationed there.
