Algeria welcomes heads of Spanish, Italian and French armies

The Algerian Army Chief of Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defence Ahmed Gaid Salah will be hosting the chiefs of staffs of the armies of Italy, Spain and France, the Ministry of Defence revealed yesterday.

Receptions will be held over two days as part of the 5+5 Defence Initiative which includes Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Malta.

The meeting “will be an opportunity to address bilateral military cooperation and discuss issues of mutual interest” and to enhance cooperation between Member States in the military fields through the exchange of experiences and expertise on strengthening security in the western Mediterranean region, the ministry’s statement said.

This announcement comes as the second Marine Group of NATO will carry out naval exercises with Algerian forces in Algiers to “strengthen the military cooperation between the two parties, which would contribute to strengthen the security of Algeria marine from any danger or potential threat”.
