October 21, 2016 at 11:12 am

Israeli authorities released Palestinian prisoner, Ahmad Mustafa Zaqout from the Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza after being imprisoned for 14 years.

After his release, the 34-year-old told Asra FM that the “prisoners are greatly suffering in the Israeli occupation’s prisons.”

He described the moment of his release and feeling of freedom as “a moment of dignity and pride”. He also urged other prisoners to be patient and called on the Palestinians, human rights organisations, and all the free people of the world to make an effort to release prisoners.

Some 1,800 ill Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli jails, and 120 of them are in critical conditions, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

More than 7,000 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in some 17 Israeli jails, many of them arbitrarily.

Palestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes in an attempt to voice outrage at their imprisonment without trial or charge as well as their prison conditions.
